Deleting your account
In force since 6 August 2026. The French version is the reference text; this one follows it clause for clause.
Deleting is immediate and it is yours to perform. Nobody has to approve it, and nobody will write back asking you to reconsider.
From inside the app
Open SYEL, then Settings → Account → Delete my account. It takes effect at once.
Two acts live in the same place, and they are not the same thing:
- Delete your conversations — what you wrote goes. The pages and patterns
SYEL drew from them stay, because they are hers to have written and yours to have kept.
- Delete your account — everything goes, including the key that decrypted
your messages. What remains in any backup is ciphertext nobody can open, including us.
Without the app
If you no longer have the app installed, or cannot open it, write to hello@syel.ai from the address linked to your account. We will delete it and tell you when it is done.
An account with no email address linked to it exists only on the device that created it: uninstalling the app is what ends it, and there is nothing left for us to find.
What is deleted
Everything that is yours: your conversations and every message in them, your daily and weekly pages, the patterns you confirmed or refused, your first name if you gave one, your email address, your notification token, and the encryption key that made any of it readable.
What is kept, and why
The spend ledger keeps its rows, with no identifier. They record what a call to the model cost, never whom it cost it for. Once your account is gone, those rows can no longer be traced to you by us or by anyone else, and they are what lets us know what the service costs to run.
Nothing else survives. There is no shadow copy, no anonymised profile, no "deleted" flag hiding a row that still exists.
How long it takes
The deletion itself is immediate. Encrypted backups held by our database provider roll over within 30 days, and your key is already gone, so what sits in them until then cannot be read.
