Terms of Use
In force since 5 August 2026. The French version is the reference text; this one follows it clause for clause.
By opening a SYEL account, you accept what follows. It is written to be read.
What SYEL is
A reflective journal. You write, she answers, and she gives you back pages: one a day, then longer pages as time passes. Sometimes she names a pattern — a mechanism that repeats — and you alone judge whether it looks like you.
What SYEL is not
Not therapy, not a diagnosis, not a health service, not an emergency service. She replaces neither a professional, nor someone close to you, nor an emergency number. She applies no clinical label and never will.
If your life is in danger, call your local emergency services. SYEL can offer you a number; she never dials and never alerts anyone on your behalf.
Minimum age
18. By opening an account, you declare that you are.
Your account
An account opens with no email address and no password. As long as no address is linked to it, it lives on that device alone: clearing it loses it, and we then have no way to give it back to you. Linking an address makes it recoverable, and that is the only purpose of the request.
You are responsible for access to your mailbox, since it is what opens your account.
What you write is yours
Your words stay yours. You grant us only the limited right to store and process them in order to provide the service — writing your pages, answering you, giving them back to you. Nothing else.
Nothing you write trains a model, ours or anyone's. We neither sell nor transfer your content to anyone.
In return, what SYEL writes is hers. A page is a reading: you recognise yourself in it or you move on. You do not correct it, and that is deliberate — a page you rewrote would no longer be a page she found.
The Paths
SYEL is free on the Spark Path. Paid Paths widen the reach — how far back SYEL can read — and the pages she writes.
- Displayed prices are the store's, in your currency.
- Reflect starts with 14 free days, monthly and annual alike. You are billed
only on the fifteenth day, and cancelling before then costs nothing.
- After the trial, the subscription renews automatically until cancelled.
- Cancellation, refunds and billing are Apple's: they are handled in your
App Store account settings, not by us. To avoid being billed, cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
- The trial is offered once: it does not start again if you resubscribe.
A downgrade only moves forward. Everything already written and read stays readable forever; only the production of new pages stops. We never lock what you already have.
If a Path includes metered usage, it is capped: never an open-ended overage.
What you agree not to do
Use the service to harm others, access it by automated means, attempt to circumvent its limits or its security, or use it for anything unlawful.
To protect the service, we apply rate limits. They are built to stop scripts, not people, and a refusal always says why.
Availability
We do our best, without guaranteeing uninterrupted availability. We may change the service or suspend parts of it; if a change removes something important, we tell you.
Warranties and liability
The service is provided as is. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude implied warranties, and our total liability is limited to the greater of: what you paid us over the preceding twelve months, or CAD 100. Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, and in Québec the Consumer Protection Act excludes several.
The pages and patterns SYEL writes are readings, not truths. The decisions you make remain yours.
Ending
You can leave whenever you like: deleting your account is immediate, under Settings → Account, and erases everything, including the key that decrypted your messages.
We may close an account that breaches these terms, after telling you unless the law or security forbids it.
Governing law
The laws of the province of Québec and of Canada, without regard to conflict of law rules. Remedies available to consumers under the law of their residence remain.
Changes
If these terms change in a significant way, we tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
